Verbs with prepositions · warten auf
Many verbs, adjectives and nouns come with a fixed preposition, often not the English one, and a fixed case: warten auf den Bus (wait for), Angst vor dem Hund (afraid of).
Examples
- Ich warte auf den Bus.I'm waiting for the bus.
- Das Kind hat Angst vor dem Hund. The child is afraid of the dog.
How it works
Many German verbs need one particular preposition, often not the one English uses: you wait "on" (auf) the bus and are afraid "before" (vor) the dog. Learn each verb together with its preposition and the case that follows.
