Future tense · futuro simple
The futuro simple — "will do". Add é / ás / á / emos / éis / án to the whole infinitive (the dictionary form, like hablar); the endings are the same for every verb group.
Examples
- Mañana viajaré a Madrid.Tomorrow I'll travel to Madrid.
- Te llamaré pronto.I'll call you soon.
- Tendremos una reunión.We'll have a meeting.
How it works
The simple future tense is formed by adding endings to the FULL infinitive (the dictionary form, like hablar) (no stem-changes for regulars). Same endings for -ar/-er/-ir verbs:
Common irregular stems (endings stay the same):
Uses:
It will rain tomorrow.
It must be three o'clock.
In casual speech "ir a + infinitivo" is often preferred over the simple future.
What you'll practise
1. Regular future endings (-é, -ás, -á, -emos, -éis, -án)
Add to the full infinitive (the dictionary form, like hablar) — same for all three verb groups.
- Hablaré con ella.I'll speak with her.
- Comerán pronto.They'll eat soon.
2. Irregular stems (haré, podré, tendré…)
Memorise the dozen verbs with modified stems.
- Lo haré mañana.I'll do it tomorrow.
- No podremos venir. We won't be able to come.
