Present tense (regular)
Drop the -ar/-er/-ir ending and add the matching personal endings.
Examples
- Hablo español.I speak Spanish.
- Vivimos en una ciudad. We live in a city.
How it works
Spanish present-tense regular conjugations (the verb's forms for each person) follow the verb-ending pattern:
-AR (hablar):
yo hablo, tú hablas, él/ella habla,
nosotros hablamos, vosotros habláis, ellos hablan
-ER (comer):
yo como, tú comes, él/ella come,
nosotros comemos, vosotros coméis, ellos comen
-IR (vivir):
yo vivo, tú vives, él/ella vive,
nosotros vivimos, vosotros vivís, ellos viven
Common present-tense uses:
- Habitual action: Estudio español todos los días.
- Current state/situation: Vivo en Madrid.
- Near future with time marker: Mañana llego a las tres.
Subject pronouns (yo, tú, él, …) are usually OPTIONAL — the verb ending already encodes the person. Use them only for emphasis or contrast.
